Ginger juice is by far the most effective natural remedy for elevated blood cholesterol. This is my personal story of how we kept my husband’s blood cholesterol under control.
When I was growing up, we were given (/ compelled to drink  ) ginger juice every Friday. I used to cry and crib about it but my parents used to insist that it is good for heath.
My husband comes from a family where they include meat in almost every meal. So obviously their chances of getting high cholesterol is very high. When he was diagnosed with high cholesterol, I freaked out and decided to go back to good habits that we have forgotten now.
After his initial blood test, he had to go for a consultation after 6 weeks to check whether his medicines were effective. These cholesterol reducing tablets sometimes have nasty side effects and one of them is their effect on the liver. So the doctor wanted to monitor his liver too.
After we got married, I suggested that we consume ginger juice regularly but my husband refused because he did not believe in natural remedies. He even dared to call me a village gal who is trying to torture her city bred modern husband with her natural remedies. Can you believe this? Poor Guy! He was newly married and did not know that mocking your wife is injurious to health. Don’t worry he was made to pay in full for all the macho things he uttered when we were newly weds. (The fact that you had no sisters or girl cousins is not a valid excuse mister ).
After a lot of convincing (okay okay nagging), he agreed to test this for 4 weeks. And when he was tested again, his cholesterol was normal and the doctor had to reduce the dosage gradually and finally stop it.
So here is the recipe for making ginger juice to reduce high blood cholesterol and also to prevent it.
- Honey / Jaggery / Sugar
Wash and peel Ginger.
Grind it adding about half a cup of water
Make it into a fine paste
Filter the ginger juice and set it aside without any disturbance for a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour. This step is mandatory.
A white chalk like substance will settle at the bottom.
This has to be removed before we consume the ginger juice or else this will hurt our stomach.
Pour the ginger juice into another vessel and mix honey / sugar / jaggery as the juice will be spicy.
Jaggery was preferred in my house because it is high in vitamin A.
Alert:This has to be consumed after food and NEVER on an empty stomach.
In my house we drank it after Friday dinner. If you are new to natural remedies, start slow and then slowly increase the amount.
The standard amount of ginger used per person was – 1 square inch of ginger per person.
Each adult can drink about one shot glass full of juice.
- This is not suitable for pregnant ladies
- Consult your doctor before trying anything new
- Natural remedies are as powerful if not more powerful than English medicine. They can have serious side effects if not used properly and may not be suitable for every one.
