If you are trying to avoid chemicals laden shampoo or body wash and are looking for a natural hair and skin wash , green gram or moong bean is a good choice.
When the bean is split and its green hull is removed, the mung bean (moong bean / பாசிப்பயறு), will be yellow.
Moong dal powder can be purchased from Indian shops. If using powder to wash skin of babies, mix it with water and set it aside for 10 minutes so that the powder becomes soft. Dry powder can be a little coarse and feel rough on baby’s delicate skin.
Soak dal in water for 3 hours. If you are planning to use it in the morning, soak over night but place bowl in refrigerator.
Grind to a fine paste if using it to wash hair and scalp.
If you are planning to use it as a skin scrub, make the paste slightly coarse so it can be used to scrub and remove dead skin cells. You can also apply it to skin and allow it to soak for half an hour before shower.
Add enough water (or aloe vera pieces or yoghurt) while grinding so that it is not too thick as dough. You should be able to pour the creamy blended paste.
To wash hair, apply it like a hair mask and wash it away with cold / lukewarm water.
You can add turmeric powder in body wash (not hair wash)
