This tutorial shows how you can wash hair with areetha nuts / soap nuts. This is how Areetha nuts / Aritha nuts / Soap nuts look like.
ஷாம்பு இல்லாமல் பூந்தி கொட்டை கொண்டு முடி பராமரிப்பு
This nut is a hair care / hair wash staple in Indian homes that prefer to avoid using harsh chemicals on their hair. Areetha nuts or Aritha nuts are used to wash delicate fabrics like silk sarees to maintain shine and this is a non toxic laundry detergent.
This homemade hair shampoo not only cleans hair, its bitter taste is germicidal and insecticidal and is believed to prevent dandruff and drive away scalp parasites like lice. This soap nut has high concentrations of natural Saponin which is a surfactant and cleansing agent. This nut is God’s natural soap and has been used by Indians for thousands of years.
Soak 4 – 5 nut (shoulder length hair) in boiling water overnight.
You will find that the skin is loose and peeling now. Mash it with hands and you will see a lot of bubbles.
Take more water if necessary and keep rinsing the areetha till you reach the hard seed. Dispose off the seeds and the skin after removing all the pulp. You may filter this liquid to remove all gritty particles to avoid scratching your scalp with them.
The water you now have will look like this with foam on top. I have removed the foam on top to show the color of the Areetha juice.
Apply this liquid to the scalp little by little and gently rub. It might not foam like shampoo but is an excellent cleanser. There is no need to rub the scalp too hard. Then wash the rest of the hair.
There will be visible softness and frizz will be very much under control.
You can also add shikakai to this if interested.
