This tutorial shows how you can weave this multicolored mini sling bag with wires that are leftover after you weave bigger baskets.
This mini bag can hold a phone, a small coin purse/wallet and keys etc.
24 pieces of wire (each measuring 1.75 meters) are needed to make this mini bag. I used 6 colors in this bag so I cut 4 pieces in each color.
If you want to make the bag taller, increase the length of the wire.
If you want to make the bag wider, increase both the length and number of wires.
To weave this basket, you have to know to weave the box knot/ square knot. Click the link for detailed tutorial.
There are 4 pieces in each color. So you will be able to make 2 knots in each color.
Join the two knots.
Repeat for all colors.
Now join all the colors.
All colors have been joined together.
Turning the corners
Since this bag won’t be having a base, the corners will be turned now itself. Find parallel wires at both ends. There will be 4 sets in total (2 sets at each end)
Knot the parallel wires. When parallel wires are knotted together, a triangle shaped hole will be formed between the 3 knots.
There will be 2 triangles on one side.
Knot the two wires that are crossing each other at the end.
One end is done (shown below).
Repeat the same at the other end. Find the two sets of parallel wires and make knots.
Two triangles will be formed here as well.
Both the ends will resemble each other.
Weaving sides of the bag
Now that we have finished turning the corner, we will start weaving the sides.
It is very simple as all you have to do is, find two wires that cross each other and make a knot with them.
First row completed.
Continue and the bag will grow in height automatically.
When weaving a cross basket, I find that it grows quicker if I make a small triangle first and then start weaving its sides. In the image below, the green wire will now be used as a running wire that travels up that slope.
You can stop here and make it a purse or continue and make it a mini bag.
Tuck in the excess wire.
Multicolored mini bag is done.
