In this needlepoint tutorial, I have shown how you can stitch the leaf/ Fir pattern. I have used mono canvas for this. You can stitch this on any fabric and even plastic canvas.
Note: This stitch is a little unforgiving. So check your work every few minutes and correct mistakes immediately.
We are in fact making hexagons while creating these leaves. Count the number of spaces that have to skip and make a slanting stitch as shown below.
Make 5 slanting stitches that are parallel to each other.
Next, we will start making the stitches shorter as we get closer to the tip.
Half the leaf is done.
Continue on the other side.
Hexagon shaped leaf with a median spine.
This can be used as a border or as a filling stitch.
A steeple/ Gopuram border (ஸ்தூபி/ கூரான கோபுரம்) can be made with this stitch. The motif can also be randomly scattered in saree or duppatta as putta.
