This tutorial shows how you can weave the alternating square knot. Depending on how close or how far away the rows are placed, you can get a tightly woven fabric or lacy fabric.
It is the same knot on both the left side and the right side.
So let’s get started. I have folded and added 4 cords using the lark’s head/ cow hitch knot on a white holding cord. I am using 2 colors to make it easier to follow the demo.
Using 4 cords at a time, start weaving the square knot. Click link if you need tutorial for square knot.
In the next row, the knots will be positioned between the two knots in row 1. We won’t be using the two leftmost cords and two rightmost cords for this row.
Start making square knots again with 4 cords at a time.
As you can see, the pink and green knot is placed below the first two knots of row 1.
Complete row 2.
3rd row will be a repetition of row 1.
After 5 rows, your work will look like this.
When done with the same color, it will look like this.
If you leave a gap between two rows, it will create a lacy pattern.
Side by side comparison between the two. The width will be wider in lacy pattern.
